Artist Info -Answers to most of your questions can be found here!

Yay! You've got a Songwriter Sanctuary show coming up! If you have a question it is probably answered below. If not reach me at [email protected] or 619-813-8245.

One Month Prior: Send Lindsay your bio and pic and make sure show is posted on your calendar, in your insta bio, or wherever you list such info online.

Two Weeks Prior: Please send Lindsay your 6 song lyrics in order. (Optional but highly recommended for accessibility). You started telling people about the show, right?

One Week Prior: Send Lindsay all sound needs and/or tracks. People know about the show, yeah?

Format: "In the round." You play one song, then the next act, then the next act. We go three times around, take a ten-ish minute intermission, then come back for another three rounds. Please prepare a total of 6 original songs. The crowd loves to hear about you/what inspires your songs, so feel free to share a little and engage with the audience.

Configuration: We can only accommodate solo or duo acts because a) it complements the format/venue, and b) we're running sound for everyone simultaneously, and c) it takes too much time to soundcheck larger groups. Additional guest singers/players can always jump up on a tune - we just need some notice so we can make sure to accommodate. There is a baby grand available to play, we can accommodate audio tracks, and if you are accompanied by percussion that's ok, just use brushes instead of sticks please.

Time: Load in/sound check starts at 5:45pm, Doors open 6:30pm, Show 7-9ish pm. Parking can be a challenge in this neighborhood, please allow some time - I am happy to help you unload/load out front, just shoot me a text! 6198138245

Compensation: Three acts split pre-sale, door donations, and pass-the-hat tips. $100 guarantee per act but will be much more if everyone promotes. There is a table for you to sell merch in lobby. Each performer also gets two drink tickets (we offer bevies with and without alcohol). We do not offer food onsite, but anyone is welcome to bring food into the venue.

Promotion: We do traditional PR through local media, email, and social media and are still working to grow our audience. Remember, we do not take a cut, so the more folks you encourage to show up, the more money you make. In addition to yielding a better payout, promoting to your networks shows your fellow performers respect so everyone has an opportunity to earn new fans. PS - This venue is a GORGEOUS and the acoustics are RIDICULOUS. If you like to capture content, this would be a good show for that!

Media Opportunities: Cathryn Beeks at Listen Local Radio has offered to feature a tune of yours on her show: check out submission details. You can also reach out to Gary Lee at Music Makers San Diego to request a booking on his podcast.

Host: Jeff Berkley hosts the majority of our shows.

Venue: Normal Heights United (4650 Mansfield St San Diego CA 92116). We are not religiously affiliated, but work in partnership with NHU to produce the shows. If you're wary of churches, this is a queer-affirming, community-minded space.

Photo/Video Consent: We encourage our audience to request consent before posting the faces and/or prominent features of folks. Feel free to give "blanket consent" when you intro yourself if you are cool with people posting/tagging content of you online. Otherwise, you can just use it as a way to encourage folks to come up and chat with you during the break or after the show.

Accessibility: If you have any accessibility requests, feel free to reach out to Lindsay at least a week prior to the showcase and I'll to my best to accommodate! Additional venue accessibility info is listed on the Songwriter Sanctuary home page.

Feel free to reach out to Lindsay with any other questions/concerns!
